For a small state, Victoria has some of the best sightseeing and most fascinating places in the country. From the heady gold rush days that saw grand hotels built along the streets of outback towns to the dramatic scenery along the Great Ocean Road there are surprises around every bend.
History plays a big part in Victoria's appeal. Now a major movie, the legend of Ned Kelly and his gang is famous worldwide, while the discovery of the 40 000 year old remains of the first known human being was marvelled at by archaeologists and historians across the planet.
For wine lovers a trip to Victoria is a must do. Touring through the wine country with its rolling hills of green, and vines of red and gold is superb. Whether by car or by hot-air balloon you will find there are many ways to enjoy these regions and sampling the local produce is icing on the cake.
Many of the local vineyards have achieved international acclaim for their wines and with other popular products of fruits and cheeses; Victoria is a gourmet's delight.
Wining and dining is also embraced in the state's capital of Melbourne, where the multicultural community has created a blend of cuisines that is simply superb. Known for fabulous shopping and a great local music scene, Melbourne is a big city with a lot of heart.
